Helen Villa
was born in Attleboro, a small town south of Boston, Massachusetts. She received
her BA from
Massachusetts College of Art in Boston before moving to sunny
California to attend graduate school at
California College of Arts & Crafts (CCAC)
in Berkley. It was there that she met her husband, the legendary
Sacramento
State art professor and muralist, Esteban Villa. Helen
continues to paint
with acrylics, documenting her family members on large canvases.
She is a member of the
Co-Madres Artistas (CMA) which was formed in
1992. CMA is comprised of six Chicana artists plus a facilitator.
Into the 21st Century, CMA continue their artistic and community
activities both collectively and individually. For more
